CBG The Monther Molecule

What is CBG Cannabinoid? The Mother Molecule

Hemp has over 100 cannabinoids, all with a different genetic profile and unique properties. The most well known and abundant in the plant are CBD and THC. However, as science progresses and more independent companies invest in R+D, more cannabinoids are discovered. One of them is Cannabigerol, or CBG, a cannabinoid present in small quantities but with big and promising properties. Although CBG is “new” on the market, phytocannabinoid was first discovered in 1960 by researchers in Israel.

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol is another phytocannabinoid present in the Cannabis and Hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBG is non-psychoactive meaning you will not get the “high” feeling. Like CBD, Cannabigerol also interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors present in different parts of our bodies. Research has shown that CBG binds primarily with CB2 receptors. These receptors are part of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which is essential for our bodies to maintain homeostasis or balance. The receptor CB2 is mostly found in immune cells, spleen, and some non-neuronal brain cells.

Now, why is CBG known to be the mother of all cannabinoids? This is because Cannabigerol is the first chemical that the plant produces, so it’s considered as the “stem cell” of the hemp. As the plant grows, Cannabigerol matures deriving in other cannabinoids like THC, CBD, CBN, among others. The remaining amount of CBG in a matured plant is significantly lower than CBD, that’s one of the reasons why the extraction and final product is more expensive.

What are the potential benefits of CBG?

Although the studies on CBG are limited, it is known that it has unique properties that are catching the attention of scientists. A study with mice from 2015 discovered that CBG has the potential to be a treatment for neurodegenerative conditions, such as Huntington’s disease. According to research, CBG is known to have the potential to improve the following health conditions:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Bladder dysfunctions
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Bacterial infections
  • Cancer
  • Appetite loss

We always encourage you to do your own research and look for high-quality products. There are not many options on the market for CBG. Vesl Oils has developed a unique formula with pure CBG Isolate.
